Pokémon GO players seem to be facing rough times of late, with reports pouring in about a major bug that is sabotaging their gameplay experience.

The recently discovered issue causes the game to turn into a cartoonish variant of Google Maps. Complaints from some users show that when they open the game, the map is just a big void without any game elements such as Pokémon, PokéStops and gyms.

Those who have noticed the bug plaguing their game should find solace in the fact that they are not the only ones affected. Trainers from all over the globe vented their frustration on social media, showing that empty Pokémon GO maps are a worldwide phenomenon.

Whether we're are looking at revenue, download stats or number of daily users, Pokémon GO rules supreme in the history of mobile gaming, and its performance is even more noteworthy as the game is only a few weeks old. The game quickly secured a top place in gross revenue, reporting more than $200 million during its first month.

However, Niantic Labs, the company behind the tremendously successful title, still has problems delivering a smooth experience to all its users. A number of previous bugs gnawed at the joy of hunting for the adorable little critters. The most significant were a three-step Pokémon tracking system, repeated failures connecting to the game's servers and a rare issue that made it impossible for gamers to install the game on a device.

For trainers who are seeing the manifestation of the newest Pokémon GO bug, a few solutions seem to work. A number of users observe a correlation between the usage of mobile data and the issue. Apparently, going to a Wi-Fi connection eliminates the bug for them and they can keep playing as usual. Others note that the game goes back to normal after they reset the device it was installed on.

In the recent major update that Niantic crafted for Pokémon GO, some of the aforementioned problems (such as the Nearby feature) received a solution. The company also seems to have put some thought into traffic safety, as the update brought warnings for drivers, who are urged to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the street. In other words, don't hunt and drive, kids. Some battery tweaks, Pokémon Throw fixes and a few minor changes were also part of the update.
