Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset developed by Oculus VR, is finally up for preorder in Europe and Canada.

Oculus VR initially launched the VR headset on Kickstarter in 2012 and the company started shipping the Oculus Rift in the United States starting March this year. On Aug. 16, Oculus VR confirmed that preorders for the VR headset have started and it is coming to retail stores in Europe and Canada on Sept. 20.

Oculus VR has confirmed that the Oculus Rift will be available on Amazon, Currys PC World, John Lewis, GAME Digital and Harrods in the UK.

In France, the VR headset will be available on Amazon and FNAC. Customers in Germany will have the option to purchase the VR headset from Saturn, Amazon and MediaMarkt.

In Canada, the Oculus VR will be on offer on Microsoft Store Online and Best Buy.

The Oculus Rift will have a price tag of £549 in the UK, €699 in other parts of Europe and $849 in Canada.

"Every Rift comes with the popular VR platformer Lucky's Tale, along with hundreds of free 3D 360 videos and VR movies, plus access to the ever-expanding collection of made-for-VR games and experiences on the Oculus Store," says Oculus VR.

Customers in Canada and Europe will get software, manuals and packaging in localized language.

Oculus VR has also revealed that it will be rolling out a demo of the Oculus Rift in different parts of Canada and Europe over the next few weeks. The company claims that by fall gamers will be able to experience the demo in about 600 locations across the United States, Canada and Europe.

Gamers have the option to schedule a demo of the VR headset by visiting Oculus Live. The company is also expected to add more demo locations in the near term.

The popularity of VR has been increasing in the last few years. Currently, there are more than 100 VR games available for the Oculus Rift such as Fruit Ninja VR, ADR1FT, EVE: Valkyrie, Fly to Kuma, Herobound: Spirit Champion, Crystal Rift, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes and more. A number of VR games are also expected to be launched during this year.

Not all PCs are compatible with the Oculus Rift. Customers can download the compatibility tool from Oculus and check if their system is compatible with the VR headset.

Sept. 20 is about a month from now so customers will have to wait a little longer before they can officially lay their hands on the newest VR headset from Oculus.
