Evidence of a free trial mode for Overwatch has been unearthed, and if it's anything to go by, then interested gamers who want to test the water before making a purchase can do so in the future.

According to the data that fan site Overpwn dug up, three strings that indicate a free-to-play mode of the Blizzard shooter were included as part of the patch that landed on the Public Test Realm or PTR recently.

Here's what the sleuths found:

• Sorry, the Overwatch Free Trial is not available at this time.

• Group members using trial cannot enter competitive play.

• Not available for trial.

Aligning with other Blizzard games, this isn't exactly hard to believe. Diablo III has it, World of Warcraft offers it and StarCraft II also features it, so why can't Overwatch?

On the other side of the fence, this could just be some remaining info when the gaming company was thinking about rolling a free trial way before the shooter launched. However, that isn't really likely. Considering that a lot of fans probably search through update after update, it's hard to imagine that it hasn't been found out yet until now.

Of course, these uncovered details aren't any kind of confirmation, so it's recommended not to get those hopes up just yet. At any rate, it shows a possibility of an upcoming free trial mode.

Before wrapping things up, it should be pointed out that those strings aren't the only interesting bits that Overpwn dredged up, as there are also a new Route 66 spray, new icons for rank tiers and an asset that features D.Va streaming.

What's more, there are plenty of new strings too, including the text that shows up in chat whenever a player types in "gg ez" or "ggez."

Here are some that deserve an honorable mention:

• I'm wrestling with some insecurity issues in my life but thank you all for playing with me.

• It's past my bedtime. Please don't tell my mommy.

• I'm trying to be a nicer person. It's hard, but I am trying, guys.

In other related news, the new map Eichenwalde has been revealed at Gamescom, and it's the "site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis." Long story short, it's definitely worth checking out.
