Samsung has just started shipping the Galaxy Note 7 in the United States but certain models won't ship for weeks. The Blue Coral and Silver color options are in high demand and some customers will have to wait three weeks or more to get their hands on the device.

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in 2015, the company was applauded for its design prowess. The smartphones dropped the cheap feeling plastic build of their predecessors for a more premium metal and glass construction that was on par with Apple's high-end iPhone design language for the first time. The Galaxy S6 edge in particular struck a chord out of the gate thanks to its unique dual-curved edge display, and took home the highly coveted "Best New Handset, Tablet, or Device" award at Mobile World Congress 2015.

Demand for the Galaxy S6 edge quickly outstripped Samsung's supply when the smartphone went on sale and many customers who preordered the handset were met with delays. The company is now experiencing a similar issue with its just-released Galaxy Note 7.

A new report from Android Central claims that Samsung has been overwhelmed by demand for certain color options of the Galaxy Note 7 and some customers are facing a wait of up to three to four weeks to get their hands on the new phablet. The Blue Coral and Silver Galaxy Note 7 are proving to be extremely popular and the source claims Samsung was shocked by the demand for the two color options and the company has just issued a statement regarding the delays.

"We've experienced an unprecedented number of pre-orders and we're excited to begin fulfilling orders on August 19th. Over the coming weeks, we'll work with our valued carrier and retail partners to provide wide-reaching national retail availability."

While Samsung isn't saying that the delay is being caused by the Coral Blue and Silver Galaxy Note 7 models specifically, it's not a complete surprise that the new blue option, which is exclusive to the Note 7, is in short supply.

We've seen Apple face similar "unprecedented demand" and shortages based on color when it introduced a new gold colored iPhone 5s in 2013 and again when it released the rose gold iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in 2015. Many customers want the device that says to the world, "I have the latest and greatest new smartphone." Apple is likely to face the same predicament when it launches the new rumored Space Black color option for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which are expected to launch in September.
