For a limited time, Activision is offering Call of Duty players a pretty sweet freebie.

If you don't own an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 yet, but hope to get one soon (for Christmas, maybe?), you can go ahead and buy your Xbox 360 or PS3 version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. If you get it before March 31, 2015, Activision will upgrade you to the next-gen version of the game at no additional cost. Pretty sweet, huh?

The only catch is that you have to buy the digital download version of the game to get the free upgrade. It won't work for physical copies of the game you'd buy in stores like GameStop. Still, it's a thoughtful gesture from Activision and an awesome deal for gamers.

Best of all, Activision will transfer all of your multiplayer stats between old and new gen versions of Advanced Warfare. Any DLC packs you purchase will transfer, too. The data will be attached to your PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag, so changing either one will negate the offer.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be available worldwide on Nov. 4, 2014. PlayStation gamers can pre-order their digital copies immediately; Xbox owners will able to pre-order sometime in the next week or so.
