Samsung is finally gearing up to launch iOS compatibility with the Gear S2 in full blast, as it has rolled out the beta program to get it in tip-top shape.

For those who are out of the loop, the South Korean brand announced this update way back in January, and it looks like this is what every wearable enthusiast out there has been waiting for.

According to Samsung (translated from Korean), the beta testing is scheduled to go from Aug. 24 to Sept. 19. That limited run could be a good indication that the official release is slated to arrive as early as late September. Needless to say, without final word from the company, it's advisable not to get those hopes up on that one just yet.

The two obvious wearables that are part of the program are the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic, but the company is not leaving out the new fitness tracker, the Gear Fit 2, adding it to the list of compatible devices.

However, it should be clarified that this is only taking place in South Korea, and that means U.S. residents won't be able to join in on the fun. At any rate, this is still an interesting sign that development for iOS compatibility is at long last in the works at a good pace and could be coming in the foreseeable future.

In the event that a beta program also launches in the region, Samsung says that users who wish to participate will need an Apple ID and an iPhone no older than an iPhone 5 running on iOS 8.4 or later. It's also worth pointing out that joining is voluntary.

This goes without saying, but the firm will iron out all the kinks and wrinkles based on user feedback to roll out a virtually bug-free update when it's ready.

On an interesting note, the Gear Manager app was leaked back in April, and at the time, it had revealed some of what was in store, including how the iOS app for the Gear S2 can push out notifications to the smartwatch and how users can install apps from the Gear store. To top it all off, there were of course screenshots showing the app in action.
