The highly anticipated iPhone 7 is finally official, and T-Mobile wants to offer it for free to customers who trade in an older iPhone model.

T-Mobile is always scrambling to come up with enticing deals and offers to shake up the industry and attract more customers, and it's no big surprise that it has a special deal in place for the very latest iPhone iteration that just made its debut.

The new iPhone 7 was all set to go up for preorder on Friday at Apple and all major U.S. carriers, including T-Mobile. The Uncarrier started taking preorders as soon as the clock turned 12:01 a.m. PDT on Sept. 9, offering the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus for early shoppers.

Apple fans who currently own an older iPhone model can now trade it in and get the latest iPhone for free from T-Mobile. It's not just any older iPhone model, however, it has to be an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. Trading in one of these devices will get customers up to $650 in monthly bill credits over 24 months, which will cover the cost of the new iPhone 7 with 32 GB of native storage space.

With $650 in bill credits, the 32 GB iPhone 7 basically becomes free with the trade-in. The larger iPhone 7 Plus or a higher configuration of the iPhone 7 with more internal storage will cost more, requiring some extra money upfront.

"[B]eginning Friday, September 9, at 12:01am PST, new and existing customers can get iPhone 7 32 GB for $0 — or iPhone 7 Plus 32 GB for just $120 — with iPhone 6 or newer trade in," notes T-Mobile.

If you missed the unveiling, the iPhone 7 sports a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, a quad-core Apple A10 Fusion processor and M10 motion coprocessor, a 12-megapixel main camera with 5x digital zoom, optical image stabilization and 4K video recording, and a 7-megapixel FaceTime HD front camera.

Apple did not disclose the battery capacity (it never does) but claims that the iPhone 7 lasts for up to two hours longer on a single charge compared to the iPhone 6s. The smartphone should last for up to 14 hours of talk time and up to 10 days of standby time.

Other highlights include built-in stereo speakers and IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. When it comes to color options, the iPhone 7 comes in Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, Black and Jet Black, with the latter reserved exclusively for the 128 GB and 256 GB versions.

In the box, you'll find the new EarPods with Lightning connector, a 5W USB adapter, a Lightning to USB cable and a 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter.

T-Mobile will start selling the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in retail stores on Sept. 16, the same day it will start selling the new Apple Watch 2. Interested customers can pre-register to get more information on the iPhone 7 availability.
