Fans would be pleased to know that the most recent rumor swirling about the upcoming Google smartphones, which are being tagged as the Pixel and Pixel XL (Nexus Sailfish and Nexus Marlin in some quarters), will be packing the Snapdragon 821 CPU, Qualcomm's best performing processor to date.

If the rumored use of the Snapdragon 821 chipset proves to be correct, then the Pixel smartphones will be the latest Android line to use this next-generation processor. The handsets will follow the footsteps of the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe and possibly the Xiaomi Mi 5s.

The Asus Zenfone device is already available for purchase and will begin shipping some of its variants on Sept. 12 but only in Taiwan. This means that once the Pixel smartphones are released, they will effectively become the first devices powered by the Snapdragon 821 to be available in the United States.

Tech Times earlier reported that the Google Pixel XL has been spotted on Geekbench, where it was revealed that the smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. If the rumors are true and the Pixels will be having the Snapdragon 821 instead, then the phones will stand to gain from the 10 percent performance increase the new chipset has over its predecessor.

To those interested in what the Snapdragon 821 can do for the Pixel devices, they can turn to Qualcomm's official word touting the chipset's cutting-edge technology.

"It is designed to support superior connectivity, graphics, photography, power and battery efficiency and helps sets a new bar for smartphones, tablets, mobile virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays and more," Qualcomm says.

Specific features include up to three times LTE speed and two times better performance through its Kryo CPU component. Qualcomm maintained that all these collectively provide power and efficiency, translating into shorter boot time, higher-quality graphics, faster response, smoother interactions with the interface and longer device use.

Aside from the Pixels' CPU, other speculations cite the inclusion of a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and the 5-inch and 5.5-inch displays for the Pixel and Pixel XL, respectively. Both devices could also hit the market with the latest Android 7.1 Nougat based on the data revealed in the leaked code Android NMR1.

There is widespread belief that Google could launch the Pixel smartphones along with the new Chromecast and the Daydream VR Viewer on Oct. 4 in the United States with preorders accepted on the very same day.

The Google Pixels are also said to be manufactured by HTC. Estimates place the price of the 32 GB variant of the Pixel at $449 and $559 for the the 32 GB Pixel XL.
