Selfie lovers who own the Xperia C4 or Xperia C4 Dual from Sony will be delighted to know that the handsets are now benefitting from the much-awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

On Sept. 16, Sony Mobile confirmed through a blog post that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the selfie-centric Xperia C4 and Xperia C4 Dual is being rolled out.

"Finally, Xperia C4 and C4 Dual users will be pleased to hear that we are starting to roll out Android 6.0, Marshmallow for these devices. A notification on your phone will prompt you to download the update, unlocking a range of exciting new features and UI changes," said Sony Mobile.

Reports that Sony had begun pushing out the over-the-air (OTA) Android Marshmallow update for its midrange Xperia C4 lineup of smartphones emerged a few days ago, but now there's an official nod from the Japan-based company.

The firmware version for the Xperia C4 is 27.3.A.0.122 and that for the Xperia C4 Dual, the dual-SIM variant of the smartphone, is 27.3.B.0.122. The software update bumps up the smartphone, which came pre-loaded with Android 5.0 Lollipop to Marshmallow.

For the unfamiliar, Sony introduced the Xperia C4 in May 2015, and the smartphone hit the shelves a month later. The handset is the successor of the Xperia C3 and is hailed by the company as a PROselfie smartphone. The smartphone was targeted at users who love taking selfies, thanks to the device's 5-megapixel secondary camera.

The Xperia C4 sports a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution, as well as a pixel density of 401 ppi. The midrange handset also houses an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor and 2 GB of RAM. The Xperia C4 offers users 16 GB of on-board storage, which can be expanded to 200 GB thanks to microSD card support.

The device's unique selling point, though, is its 5-megapixel front-facing snapper that supports LED flash. This camera also has a wide-angle lens of 25 mm, as well as support for Sony's Exmor R sensor. Thanks to the latter, pictures taken in low-light conditions are also quite stellar. The handset also offers a 13-megapixel primary camera.

The LTE-compatible device's 2,600 mAh battery can support nearly 12 hours of talk time. The features for the Xperia C4 Dual are the same, barring the fact that it offers dual-SIM support.

With Sony finally rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow nearly a year after its release, users of the Xperia C4 would be hoping that the arrival of Android 7.0 Nougat is a lot faster.

The update is now available for the U.S. variant of the Xperia C4 and the screenshots point to a new UI for the handset. Users will also benefit from the features of the popular Android Marshmallow, such as Doze Mode, Google Now on Tap and more.

It is advisable you have at least 500 MB free storage space available on your handset, as well as 50 percent battery charge. To manually check if your Xperia C4 or Xperia C4 dual has received the OTA update, navigate to Settings > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates.
