If you've been hankering for the Motorola Moto Z and Moto Z Play but didn't want to purchase a Verizon Wireless variant of the device, then you'd be pleased to learn that the unlocked model of the handset is now up for preorder in the United States.

Best Buy and Amazon have now made available the Moto Z and Moto Z Play for preorder. The two smartphones are already available from Verizon as Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Play Droid. However, with the retailers opening up preorders for the Android-powered handsets, the Verizon exclusivity will soon come to an end.

The unlocked variant of the Moto Z will be released on Oct. 2, followed by the Moto Z Play to hit the shelves a few weeks later on Oct. 20. The launch window does not come as a surprise as Motorola previously revealed that the unlocked models of the handsets would be released in October.

Where To Preorder The Unlocked Moto Z And Z Play

Amazon

E-retailer Amazon is offering the 64 GB model of the Moto Z for $699.99 in the Lunar Grey color option. It is also giving a U.S. warranty and free shipping. The item will be released on Oct. 2, notes the retailer. You can preorder the unlocked model of the Moto Z from this link.

Meanwhile, the Moto Z Play is the cheaper of the two with the unlocked 32 GB model priced at $449.99. Amazon offers free shipping and will release the item on Oct. 22. The model up for grabs is in Lunar Grey as well. Amazon also offers U.S. warranty for the handset. You can preorder the Moto Z Play at this link.

Best Buy

The Moto Z can be preordered from Best Buy for $699.99 as well, and the retailer has the Black hue of the 64 GB smartphone up for sale. Best Buy is also offering free shipping. You can preorder the unlocked Moto Z from this link.

The unlocked 32 GB Moto Z Play is listed for $449.99 and will be available in three colors: Black, Black Slate and Silver. Shipping for the handset is free.

Best Buy is also throwing in a Motorola Incipio offGRID portable charger for free with all orders for the Moto Z Play. You can preorder the handset at this link.

Interestingly, Verizon retails the unlocked Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Play Droid for $624 and $408, respectively. However, the Moto Z Droid's price is for the 32 GB model.

It's worth mentioning that the unlocked models from Best Buy and Amazon are only compatible with a GSM network, which means they will only work with AT&T and T-Mobile and not Sprint as it is CDMA.
