Warning! Spoilers ahead for American Horror Story: Roanoke, "Chapter 2." Read at your own risk or bookmark for later!
The Roanoke nightmare continued for Shelby and Matt Miller last night, but even though fans got a new episode for this season's American Horror Story, we are still pretty clueless as to what's really going on.
What we do know at this point is that the Miller property is haunted by some old Puritan-era colony with Kathy Bates' character leading the pack. We also got a glimpse of Gaga who appeared in the first five minutes of "Chapter 2" besides Bates in the human pig roasting scene.
Bates' character did mention something about purifying the poor soul at the stake, so this pig-headed punishment might not be a demonic sacrifice and instead be some kind of ritual used to set an example to the rest of the colony.
Viewers also learned that these 16th-century ghosts are looking to kill everyone in the house, leaving the daughter of Matt's sister Lee (played by Angela Bassett in the reenactment) for last.
But then "they" took her.
The episode ended in a cliffhanger with the little girl disappearing, the only trace of her being her yellow jacket found high up in a tree. Could this mean she was abducted by aliens? We don't know if this is a realistic explanation, or how this would make sense with the pig people, but stranger things have happened.
The other part of the episode focused on another ghost story—that of two nurse sisters obsessed with killing so much that they moved into the house to start a senior home with the goal to off their patients one by one. They were then chased away by something more evil, but wouldn't evil welcome evil?
Even after learning these small details as the story continues to unfold, fans still have no idea in what direction this season is heading and nothing really makes much sense.
And the promo for episode three continues to leave us in the dark. More unexplainable events will continue to occur (so get ready for more silly things like pig tails on the wall), like windows breaking and knives being thrown. There will also be some kind of surprise left in the fridge, but as Matt Miller says, "What happened next made absolutely no sense."
But according to co-creator Ryan Murphy, just when viewers start to think they are figuring Roanoke out, we will find out that we still don't know diddly squat about what's going on.
Murphy revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that we can expect a huge twist in episode six so that "the thing that you think you're watching is not what you're watching."
So could we be talking about alternate realities here? Will we continue to go to the past and the present?
We will have to continue watching to keep putting pieces of the puzzle together. According to co-creator Brad Falchuk, episodes one to five go together, then six to nine and then 10 has its own thing.
Nothing makes sense to us at this point, but we are all waiting to be shocked.
