Google's Oct. 4 Pixel and Pixel XL smartphone event is only days away. Press images of the new devices have been compared with its Nexus predecessors and other popular Android smartphones to compare both Pixel's size and design with other devices.

Android fans are going to be treated to new flagship smartphones from Google at its October press event. The company will launch a new Pixel series of smartphones to replace its Nexus handsets. Details regarding the next-generation smartphones have been leaking for months, and there's not much we don't know about the handsets.

The Pixel and Pixel XL will compete directly with Apple's new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, since Google will use most of the same specs in both Pixel handsets, differentiating the two mainly via their 5-inch and 5.5-inch displays. The devices are also expected to be offered in three color configurations when they go on sale.

We've just reported what appears to be official press images of both the Google Pixel and Pixel XL have leaked. This gave us a first clear look at the new smartphones and a confirmation that both would be launched with Android 7.1 Nougat — as evidenced by visual changes of round icons and redesigned navigation buttons.

Now, we get to see how the new Google Pixel and Pixel XL compare in design and size to their predecessors, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. The Pixel and Pixel XL are noticeably smaller than last years Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, and unlike those devices, Google has chosen to use a move out of Apple's iPhone playbook by making the design of both of its new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones appear identical, letting the main difference be choice in display size.

New images of the Pixel and Pixel XL have also been published that compare Google's upcoming flagship smartphones with those of current popular Android handsets, including the LG V20, Nexus 6P, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, HTC 10 and Galaxy S7.

Google is expected to price the Pixel and Pixel XL similarly to Apple's pricing on its unlocked iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The company previously sold its Nexus smartphones at a significantly lower price than Apple's iPhones. It will be interesting to see if it will be able to compete in the same pricing tiers as Apple, especially considering that Apple has agreements will all major carriers. The only chatter we've heard so far is that Verizon is expected to offer the Google Pixel and Pixel XL on its network.

As always, we'll keep you up to date on any new Pixel and Pixel XL news as it happens. Are you planning to buy a Pixel or Pixel XL? Please let us know in the comments below.
