Even though we will be just four episodes in when American Horror Story airs this week, there will be lots more to come for the anthology series even after season six concludes.

American Horror Story has officially been renewed for season seven, which is set to premiere next year on its home at FX.

Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the series has managed to remain extremely popular among fans with its new themes, story lines and characters being added each year - with many actors returning to play new parts like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Lady Gaga, Wes Bentley, Angela Bassett and Matt Bomer, just to name a few.

And this season the showrunners have been able to turn the series on its head by featuring a new documentary-like format that features a "true life" story of a couple living on property that is haunted by the lost colony of Roanoke. At least this is what we think since there will be some major twist coming in just a few more episodes.

"Ryan [Murphy], Brad [Falchuk] and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment," FX Networks CEO John Landgraf said in a statement. "The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast and twists."

AHS: Roanoke's premiere episode became the third-most-watched episode in FX's history. This could be largely to due with the fact that there was mass hype surrounding what this season could be about since various promos were released to misdirect the public as to this year's theme.

And while the show's creators were able to keep the details of this season's My Roanoke Nightmare a secret, it appears like Murphy is already hard at work at this next installment.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy revealed that he already started working on his plans for season seven. With his ideas of what the season will look like and its theme already chosen, chances are it will continue to be something completely innovative compared to past seasons. In fact, he calls next season a "a narratively strange idea."

He already began calling up actors to reserve next season in their calenders.

Murphy also said he is already at work on even more episodes alongside one other writer, but these will be part of a "secret season." He added that he is now sure when this season will air, so it might not be season eight.

With plans for season seven and even more episodes being planned for the future, it's safe to assume the insanely creepy series will continue to be around for a long time and continue to blow minds of loyal audiences.

New episodes of American Horror Story: Roanoke air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
