Super Smash Bros. for Wii U creator Masahiro Sakurai teased new modes coming exclusively to the home console version of the game with a blurry teaser image, and told a Japanese gaming magazine Nintendo would be making an announcement "soon."

It looks like Amazon has gone and stolen Nintendo's thunder by revealing new details about the game under the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U product description.

"Whether you're creating stages on the GamePad, competing in challenges crafted by Master Hand and Crazy Hand, or outwitting your opponents in a brand new board game mode, there's no doubt that the ultimate Smash Bros. game has arrived," the Amazon page reads.

Creating stages? Board game mode? The two modes are previously unheard of. Sakurai's teaser images led many fans to believe the two exclusive game modes would allow for players to play as Super Smash Bros. bosses Master Hand and Crazy Hand, but made no mention of a stage creator or board game mode. It now looks like the bosses will be playable in special modes in addition to the two leaked modes.

The create-a-stage feature is fairly self explanatory and isn't too surprising. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the franchise's previous incarnation, also featured a stage creator. A board game mode is something new entirely.

Many are taking Sakurai's statement regarding Nintendo announcing the new modes as a sure sign that a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U-focused Nintendo Direct is on the horizon, which will detail the Wii U exclusive modes. Nintendo regularly uses the mini-press conferences to highlight new games and features by appealing directly to their audience via web broadcast.

Nintendo has yet to formally announce a Nintendo Direct, but we should know more in the coming weeks leading up to Super Smash Bros' Nov. 21 Wii U release date. Sakurai, in talking with Famitsu, also stated that despite being roughly a month away from release, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U wasn't quite finished yet. Nintendo finally released a formal release date for the title only weeks ago, no doubt waiting for confirmation that Sakurai's team could finish the game this holiday season.
