US Cellular rolls out the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
The American network carrier's Marshmallow over-the-air update for the Galaxy Note 4 is one of the tardiest. In fact, the release comes a month after AT&T rolled out its Note 4 Marshmallow update, which many deemed to be pretty late compared to other major carriers.
Verizon released Android Marshmallow for the Galaxy Note 4 back in June, which is four months ago. Sprint's release in March of this year was way ahead of the other mentioned network carriers.
Moreover, a good portion of the current premium mobile devices now runs on Android 7.0 Nougat, which was released in August 2016. Still, better late than never.
On the brighter side of things, US Cellular's Marshmallow rollout for Note 4 is just in time for the mobile OS' anniversary. Note that Google first rolled out Marshmallow on Oct. 5, 2015, for both the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, the first mobile devices to have a taste of Android 6.0.
This Android Marshmallow update brings a pack of features to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which includes various bug fixes, a new app drawer design, better stability, greater control over app permissions and improved battery life thanks to the OS' Doze mode that kills all background processes when the device is sleeping and prevents apps from waking up the device when its display has been off for a while. While hardly noticeable, Marshmallow also packs some changes to the phablet's user interface, especially with icon shapes.
Marshmallow also brings the updated S Pen functionality, which was previously exclusive to the Galaxy Note 5, to the Note 4. By pulling out the S Pen, users can access the Air Command menu, which presents options that include Action Memo, Smart Select, Screen Write, S Note and Add Shortcuts.
There's also the Off-screen memo that lets users write notes using the accompanying S Pen on the phablet's display without the need to turn on the phone.
Bear in mind that this is an OTA update, and therefore, it won't get rolled out for everyone at the same time. US Cellular customers who are eager to get Marshmallow running on their Galaxy Note 4 phablets can manually check for the update.
How To Manually Check For OTA Updates
• Go to Settings.
• Tap on About Device.
• Click on Software Update.
• Tap on Update Now.
It is recommended that the device is plugged in to an outlet or at least fully charged prior to updating.
