The Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta is only a week away, and now Infinity Ward is offering concrete details on what players can expect to experience once it does arrive.

As expected, the game's full multiplayer offerings won't be available. For starters, only three of the game's six combat rigs will be available for players to try. Combat rigs are the biggest new addition to Call of Duty's multiplayer experience. These rigs work similarly to a class system, with each rig having specific special abilities and weapons that can be customized.

Players will be able to take the game's Warfighter, Merc and Synaptic combat rigs for a spin in the beta. Warfighter is designed for assault-style players who prefer to fight at midrange. Synaptic, on the other hand, specializes in speed and close combat. And then there's Merc, which excels at laying down suppressive fire.

As for game modes, fan favorites like Team Deathmatch, Domination and Kill Confirmed will be in the beta alongside one brand new mode called Defender. In Defender, players must grab a drone and defend it. The longer a team holds the drone, the more points they earn. Infinity Ward describes the mode as a "high-stakes" game of keep away.

Those modes will be played on three maps: "Frontier," "Frost" and "Throwback." Frontier is described as a fast-paced circular map that is set on a space station orbiting Neptune. Frost takes players to Jupiter's moon Europa for plenty of vertical combat opportunities. Last but not least, "Throwback" is a 1950s-stlye "Main Street USA" map that sits atop a space station.

One additional new element players can test out is Infinite Warfare's new "Mission Teams." These teams add a new metagame experience to multiplayer by allowing players to swear allegiance to one team and complete various challenges for them in order to unlock special calling cards, weapon camos, emblems and more. Two of the game's four mission teams will be available in the beta in the form of the aggressive, combat-oriented JTF Wolverines and the more objective-based Orion Initiative.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's beta begins on Oct. 14 for those who preordered the game on PlayStation 4. The Xbox One beta begins a week later on October 21. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 4. You can read more about what to expect from the beta here.
