A list has emerged regarding which Samsung smartphones will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The list includes most of Samsung's recent flagship devices in its S and Note series, including edge variants.

It appears as if Google's rollout of its Android 7.0 Nougat software upgrade is starting to gain momentum. The company will deliver the OS out of the box on its soon-to-be-released and highly anticipated Pixel handsets, and Motorola recently announced which of its devices would be receiving the upgrade.

Samsung, despite the recent Note 7 debacle, is still the No. 1 manufacturer and seller of Android handsets in the world, and its users are eager to be in the know as to which of the company's devices will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update.

The current list of confirmed devices to be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat includes the following: Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge Plus, Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Galaxy Note 5 and the now-infamous Galaxy Note 7.

That pretty much covers all recent Samsung flagship smartphones that are categorized via its S series for smartphones and Note series for phablets, including all recent edge models. Conspicuously absent from the list is the Galaxy Note 4, which is just around the 2-year-old mark considered an indicator of whether a device will receive the latest Android upgrade, as well as its companion Galaxy Note edge model, which is also hovering around the two-year time frame.

At some carriers, such as AT&T and US Cellular, those models have actually just received their Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates. While it is likely that they'll ultimately be added to the list of devices expected to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, they will probably once again be deprioritized in favor of newer models.

The Galaxy S5 is still on the fence as well, as the former flagship is now 2 and a half years old. While it could still make the cut, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow could also be the end of the road for that model. Most of Samsung's upcoming new mid-range line including its popular A series phones should be released with Android 7.0 Nougat already on board, and more recent prior A releases should be added to the list of devices that are scheduled to eventually receive an Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade.

As always, we'll keep you posted on when to expect Android 7.0 Nougat updates for Samsung smartphones as more details become available.
