Apple is set to release the Apple Watch Nike+ on Oct. 28, a special edition Watch Series 2 designed particularly for fitness-minded consumers.

Nike has coupled with Apple to develop the watch, and it has even developed its own software for the watch to go along with watchOS 3. All apps for regular Apple Watch models will also be compatible on Apple Watch Nike+.

Apple first unveiled its smartwatch lineup refresh named the Apple Watch Series 2 during its Sept. 7 event in San Francisco, and despite detailing a bevy of improvements over the previous model, Apple did not offer a solid release date for the product, issuing a somewhat vague "late October" placeholder date.

The Apple Watch Nike+ will come in 38 mm and 42 mm variants, and you can preorder them today for $369 and $399, respectively. With the Nike+ models, Apple and Nike aims to appeal to runners and fitness-minded consumers who want to track their runs or other activities effectively using the Apple Watch. The device boasts a robust aluminum casing similar to other Sport editions and a light, flexible wristband that's perforated for breathability. Apple seems to have designed the watch to be rugged for more exhaustive activities.

Specialized software developed by Nike includes the Nike+ Run Club app, which lets users track their runs and set reminders around running activities based on friends' activities, the weather or the user's own history, so the app kind of motivates the user to get active. Special Nike watch faces also come with the Nike+, featuring Nike's iconic Volt color, which displays the time in digital or analog.

Apple Watch Nike+ will come in four types of aluminum casing/wristband configurations: Space Gray/Black and Volt, Space Gray/Black and Bool gray, Silver/Flat Silver and White and Silver/Flat Silver and Volt.

The Apple Watch Nike+ has the same specifications of the Apple Watch Series 2, sporting a built-in GPS, which is useful for running and tracking activities, water resistance of up to 50 meters, a brighter display and a much faster processor than its predecessor. The Watch Series 2 runs on watchOS 3, Apple's latest operating system for its smartwatch lineup. It was shipped on Sept. 16, with international rollouts currently ongoing.

Watch Series 2 was unveiled alongside Apple's flagship smartphone, the iPhone 7, featuring dual cameras and notably not featuring a headphone jack. AirPods Apple's wireless earphones with Siri functionality was also unveiled during the event, among other things.

The Apple Watch Nike+ is now available for preorder.
