Those who are fans of the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic might one day be able to binge-watch episodes based on fictional universe on Netflix.

There is a petition making its rounds that is asking the popular streaming service to create a Star Wars: The Old Republic original series.

Developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts, the Star Wars: The Old Republic online role-playing game was first released for PCs in 2011. Players are asked to join the Republic or Sith with the game featuring eight different classes with different gameplay and features.

Much to gamers' delight, a new expansion pack for The Old Republic will be released on Dec. 2 called Knights of the Eternal Throne. The expansion pack further adds excitement to the game as its fan base increases and strengthens, as well as reveals that content within this universe can be strong enough to stand alone.

The game is set 200 years after the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic events and more than 3,600 years before the popular films. This gives Disney, Lucasfilm and Netflix the chance to tell stories "from over 3,000 years before the Battle of Yavin ... to both new and old fans of the franchise."

With Netflix wanting to increase its library of original content, and with the renewed interest in the Star Wars franchise with the recent launch of The Force Awakens and the upcoming release of Rogue One, it may actually be a great idea for the platform to consider releasing Star Wars content.

"Why Netflix was chosen was because of the wealth of great content they have produced over the years, such as Narcos, House of Cards, and especially everything that Marvel has done and is still currently working on," the petition's author Jasmine St. Philippe writes. "Not only that, but Netflix can serve as a platform to tell these stories as they were meant to be portrayed: dark, foreboding, and a touch on the mature side."

And Netflix won't have to worry about there being an audience for the new Star Wars series, since more than 74,000 fans have signed the petition to make this dream a reality.

"The Old Republic era is a pivotal point in the Star Wars timeline because that's where everything changed, from the Jedi Civil War and the fall of Revan, the First Jedi Purge, and an omnipresent darkness that not only watched the chaos from afar but also kick-started the downfall," the petition reads. "Our fan base would love to see this on Netflix, and I feel that you would enjoy creating and adapting these stories as much as we would enjoy watching them."

There could be a real possibility that the series could find a home at Netflix, especially since Disney and the streaming platform has a deal that includes launching content from Lucasfilm. However, when it comes to its plans for Star Wars, decisions have probably been made in advance as to which projects will be worked on next.

Until then, stay tuned to check out Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when it hits theaters on Dec. 16.
