The first trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 has arrived, and while it's not much, it sure is pretty. Fans will continue to speculate about the game's characters, story and setting in the months to come after a small taste granted by Rockstar, but already more details are beginning to arrive in the form of console-exclusive content.

Announced today alongside the game's first trailer, Sony and developer Rockstar Games will be partnering together to bring PlayStation 4 gamers first access to certain online content in Red Dead Redemption 2. Here's how Sony phrased it exactly on the official PlayStation blog:

"We are pleased to announce that PS4 players get first access to earn select online content in the vast open world of Red Dead Redemption 2," Sony writes.

The words "select online content" makes it seem like PS4 owners may gain the special privilege of accessing, or in Sony's words "earning," timed exclusive content in the online component of Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online. This is nothing new for Sony, which has partnered with Activision and others to deliver timed exclusive content for PS4 in games like Call of Duty and Destiny. However, no exact details have been released, with Sony saying to expect more details on what exactly "first access to select online content" means soon.

Considering how hugely popular Grand Theft Auto V's GTA Online mode is (and how much of a moneymaker it is), Sony brokering an exclusive deal for Red Dead Online (or the whole game in general) could give the PS4 a significant advantage when it comes to persuading gamers to purchase Red Dead Redemption 2 on their console as opposed to Microsoft's Xbox One.

Sony's blog post also says that Rockstar's next game is "hand crafted" to take full advantage of the PS4 and that there's no better place to play it than on PlayStation.

Sony also announced that the first Red Dead Redemption will soon be playable on its game streaming service PlayStation Now. The first game in the Red Dead series, the PlayStation 2 classic Red Dead Revolver, was also recently made available for purchase through the PlayStation Network for $14.99.
