A number of Nexus 6P users flooded Reddit over the weekend to report that their devices have been suffering from battery failure issues after installing the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS.

YouTube user TheRedyTedy posted a video on Friday, Oct. 29, where he demonstrated a power issue he had been having with his Nexus 6P. His smartphone uses the recently released Android 7.0 Nougat and not a beta version of the operating system.

After taking three pictures using his phone's camera, TheRedyTedy showed that the device suddenly shut down despite having a 53 percent battery charge. He tried pressing and holding down the power button to turn it back on but it didn't work.

The only time the Nexus 6P was able to power back up was after he connected it to the charger cord, waited for the battery icon to come up on screen, disconnect the cord then press the power button again.

TheRedyTedy created a thread on Reddit to point out the battery failure issue, which was soon filled with comments by other Nexus 6P users who had been having the same problems with their devices.

Android 7.0 Nougat Battery Issues

Some of the commenters said that their smartphones keep shutting down whenever they reach certain battery charge percentages, while others said their devices suffer from fast battery drain.

Many of them claimed that the problems began after they installed the Android 7.0 Nougat OS, but those running on Android 7.1 update may also experience these same issues.

Reddit user destroyer said he experienced the problem with his device after running Android 7.0 and Android 7.1.1. He wanted to downgrade the OS back to Android Marshmallow but said he has already become accustomed to the new features that came with the Nougat update.

Other users said they also had the same issues with their smartphones but were able to resolve them by rebooting.

Another named Vanterax said he noticed that his phone's battery charge suddenly dropped from 96 percent to 73 percent in just a matter of seconds. It just kept losing power so he tried to reboot it. It seemed to have worked as his phone's battery charge remained stable after the reboot.

The-Respawner, on the other hand, suggested users upgrade to Android 7.1.1 then have their devices undergo a factory reset. However, other users who tried the same thing said it only worked for a while but the battery failure would return a few days later.

Huawei and Google have yet to release any statements regarding the alleged Android 7.0 Nougat battery problems.
