ZTE's budget Android flagship Axon 7 will receive an Android 7.0 Nougat in January, the company has confirmed via Twitter.

Android 7.0 Nougat Update

The Axon 7 is part of a league of Android smartphone that house almost premium, if not fully premium, features on a price point that won't break your bank. Very similar to OnePlus' series of smartphones — now on its third iteration.

The problem with the Axon 7 is that it still runs on Android Marshmallow, lagging behind Android Nougat smartphones out and about in the market. Though the rollout of Google's latest operating system has been relatively slow, there is still a pretty promising reason to expect it to come sooner.

The Axon 7 is a little late to receive Nougat, but hopefully the company doesn't delay the software further. There's no telling what type of Nougat build ZTE has devised for Axon. We'd have to wait until January comes.

ZTE Axon 7 Specs

The Axon 7 is one the most attractive options right now in the market if one is looking to find a smartphone that packs a punch with a price tag that won't scare people off. Though the brand remains relatively low-key in mainstream dialog, it still beats other smartphones who are late in the Android Nougat game.

The Axon 7 was launched in May this year, rocking a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with 538 ppi. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor powers the Axon 7, alongside an Adreno 530 graphics card. It comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, expandable up to 256 GB. Like many premium smartphones today, the Axon 7 comes with a fingerprint sensor, which is a nice bonus for a comparatively cheap handset.

On the back of the device is a 20-megapixel shooter that can record 4K video 30 fps, 1080p video at 60 fps 720p video at 240 fps for those who want to capture slow motion video. On the front is an 8-megapixel video that can record 1080p video. The Axon 7 has a 3,250 mAh battery to keep things juiced up and a Quick Charge 3.0 feature that charges the device up to 83 percent in just 30 minutes.

The Axon 7 is available for purchase on ZTE's online store.

A ZTE Nougat Smartphone In The Works?

Beating out big name phone manufacturers such as Samsung, ZTE is reported to be working on a smartphone that will come with Nougat right off the bat, Softpedia reports.

A new GFXBench listing has been spotted online, with the purported phone under the ZTE BV0800 codename. It's noteworthy that the specs of this upcoming phone does not match its previous flagship siblings, though it will still come, supposedly, with Android Nougat.

By the looks of it, ZTE is gearing up for a release of an inexpensive Nougat-ready smartphone soon. It rocks a 5.2-inch display with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. A 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 505 chip will power the device, which comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. There's a 12-megapixel rear shooter that can record 4K video and interestingly, the front shooter also has 12-megapixel, leading us to believe that it might be marketed as a phone that can take high-quality selfies.
