When you just don't want to go into work, but you're all out of sick days, what's a person to do? Make up an excuse, obviously.

Lying about your grandmother's death is a classic, but it's kind of morbid. It's too soon to say that you have the Ebola virus, plus it causes more trouble than it's worth. And nobody buys that you have to wait around for the plumber. What you need is an excuse so crazy that no one would dare call you out on it.

CareerBuilder has you covered. The job listings website has just released its annual list of "The Most Unbelievable Excuses for Calling in Sick," and they're not half bad. Oh, they totally wouldn't get you off the hook for missing work, but they sure are entertaining to read.

CareerBuilder surveyed 3,103 workers and 2,203 hiring managers and human resource professionals that varied in industry and company size across the country. Without further ado, these are the most ridiculous excuses that employees gave to their bosses when calling in sick for work:

1. Employee just put a casserole in the oven.

You wouldn't want it to burn, now would you?

2. Employee's cosmetic plastic surgery needed some "tweaking" to get it just right.

Something like that can't wait until the weekend.

3. Employee was sitting in the bathroom and her feet and legs fell asleep. When she stood, up she fell and broke her ankle.

That struggle is real.

4. Employee had been at the casino all weekend and still had money left to play with on Monday morning.

Some opportunities are just too good to pass up.

5. Employee woke up in a good mood and didn't want to ruin it.

At least they were honest.

6. Employee had a "lucky night" and didn't know where he was.

That's problematic.

7. Employee got stuck in the blood pressure machine at the grocery store and couldn't get out.

Couldn't they have just worked from home?

8. Employee had a gall stone they wanted to heal holistically.

No one wants that image in his or her mind.

9. Employee's uniform caught on fire because they put it in the microwave to dry.

At least their heart was in the right place.

10. Employee accidentally got on a plane.

It happens to the best of us.

Aren't these just wonderful? I really hope you're inspired to top these so your excuse can make it to next year's list.

But if you're going to make up an excuse of this caliber, you better have a way to make it look like whatever you say happened actually happened. The survey also found that 31 percent of employers have checked on their employees to see if they were telling the truth. You don't want all of your hard work in coming up with an elaborate excuse to go to waste.
