Reports from late last month revealed an issue with the rear cameras of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, as several thousand users said that they were noticing extreme lens flaring.

The problem is causing images to appear with bright halos, and suffice to say, such an effect is not really a good one to have in all the pictures that users take.

For Google Pixel and Pixel XL users who are experiencing the issue, here are some things you can try to solve the problem.

Take Pictures A Certain Way

One of the ways to avoid getting unwanted lens flares on pictures is to never shoot pictures while looking straight at the sun or while in a room with a bright light shining at the edge of the Google Pixel or Pixel XL's screen.

If avoiding such an instance is impossible, then there are some other things to try. When shooting toward the direction of the sun, place the sun at the corner of the screen or off-axis. If shooting indoors with a bright light, position the light behind the camera rather than to the side.

Google Pixel And Pixel XL Software Update

If following these methods do not work in erasing the extreme lens flaring on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, users will then likely have to rely on the upcoming software update that Google will be releasing to address the problem.

In late October, it was said that the software update would be coming in the next few weeks, which means that users should expect the patch to arrive sooner than later.

Other Methods To Address Lens Flares?

One of the other methods of preventing lens flares from appearing in pictures is to use a lens hood. While using such an accessory may be acceptable in digital cameras, it would be highly impractical to attach one to a smartphone.

Lens flares have also been addressed by utilizing specialist coatings on the surface of lenses, along with the usage of high-quality glass. Such options are not available for smartphones to be able to keep their costs within the expected price range for customers.

It seems that Google Pixel and Pixel XL owners are stuck with two possible solutions of avoiding certain situations in taking pictures and waiting for the upcoming software update. The Google smartphones are great devices, but hopefully the lens flare problem will soon be addressed.

Another Google Pixel Problem

Another problem with the Google Pixel, this time concerning the security of users, was reported early this month. According to security researchers, unlocking the smartphone through a voice command looks cool, but the Trusted Voice feature is a definite security concern.
