Rumors of the iPhone 8 to be launched in fall 2017 have already started and previous reports have noted that Apple is working to overhaul the design of the next-gen iPhone. Latest rumors reaffirm the reports and claim that a fresh design of the iPhone 8 will allow for faster charging.

All-Glass Design Of The iPhone 8

Latest research notes (obtained by MacRumors) from Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities suggest that Apple may adopt an all-glass design for the iPhone 8, which will help support wireless charging for the entire iPhone 8 lineup to be launched in 2017.

Existing iPhones have a metal casing and Kuo points that switching from metal to an all-glass casing is very important for next-gen iPhones to support wireless charging. Solutions for wireless charging of metal-cased phones exist but metal limits charging speed. An all-glass design of the iPhone 8 will enable faster charging of the device.

Wireless Charger For iPhone

Kuo notes that the wireless chargers for the iPhone 8 models are expected to be made by Pegatron.

"In order to ensure a superior performance, we believe it is most appropriate for EMS suppliers to develop and make the wireless charger because then a comprehensive test can be conducted. As Hon Hai needs to deploy most resources to develop and produce OLED iPhone, we expect Pegatron will be the exclusive supplier of the wireless charger," says Kuo.

Current smartphone wireless charging requires the device to be placed on a base plugged to a power source. Apple is said to be working on a wireless charging technology for its iPhones that will not require users to place their handset of a charging pad. Users will be able to charge their iPhone wirelessly without placing it on a charging mat and even while talking on the phone.

It is highly likely that Apple will not include the wireless charger along with the iPhone and customers will have to purchase it as a separate accessory.

Apple To Launch Three iPhones In 2017

In the last few years, Apple has been launching two iPhones: a 4.7-inch model and a bigger 5.5-inch variant.

However, Kuo predicts that iFans can see three new iPhone 8 models in 2017: a 5.1-inch or 5.2-inch OLED screen version, a 5.5-inch model with an LCD display and a 4.7-inch variant with an LCD display.

The new iPhones may not include a physical home button as found on current iterations. Apple plans to include the fingerprint sensor inside the screen of its upcoming iPhone.

Apple has not confirmed any details of the iPhone 8 but being a 10th anniversary model, it is likely that the company will introduce major changes to the next-gen iPhones.

For now, Apple fanatics have the iPhone 7 or the iPhone 7 Plus on top of their lists while we wait for any of these iPhone 8 rumors come to reality.
