The Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini Prime is one of the company's many mid-range to lower-tier smartphone offerings usually targeted at markets where premium offerings aren't readily afforded by consumers. Oddly enough, the phone is now available in the United States.

The 4-inch smartphone has now landed on Amazon and eBay sans an official announcement from Samsung.

Interested consumers may get the Galaxy J1 Mini Prime unlocked from Amazon for $89.99 while an eBay seller lists it for a slightly lower price at $86.99, also unlocked. Both listings were first reported by PhoneArena.

The phone comes with dual SIM support and is compatible with AT&T 3G. Additionally, the phone may also be used under T-Mobile, though the service will be limited to 2G, which by today's standards is appallingly measly.

Galaxy J1 Mini Prime Specs

The Galaxy J1 Mini Prime bears a striking resemblance to the Galaxy J1, Samsung's budget phone released early 2016, though the J1 Mini obviously sports a smaller 4-inch screen than its larger sibling.

The screen on the device features 480 x 800 resolution, which is just par for the course since the phone won't obviously hold a candle to much beefier premium offerings in the market today. The phone is powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz Spreadtrum SC9830 processor and a Mali-400MP2 graphics chip. Impressively, the device is able to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow despite its underpowered components.

The device has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage, expandable up to 256 GB via the SIM 2 slot. It only has one camera — a 5-megapixel rear shooter with a LED flash able to record 720p video at best.

Who Is It For?

The Galaxy J1 Mini Prime obviously won't dare mingle with expensive and premium handsets atop the mountainous smartphone pile, although the phone does fit users who want a simple, straightforward calling and messaging device powered by Marshmallow.

For just less than $90, users may certainly find the phone's paltry power enough for simple tasks without the bulk of bells and whistles like a high-end camera, a fingerprint sensor, a Quad HD screen or anything fancy.

What do you think? Could the Galaxy J1 Mini Prime be a dependable and compact back-up phone? Or could it stand as an eligible introductory phone for parents who don't want to spoil their children with bank-breaking and theft-prone flagships in their schoolbags?
