The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 may get a taste of Android 7.0 Nougat soon enough, if a new benchmark listing is any indication.

Samsung has an official Android 7.0 Nougat beta program in place for its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge flagship smartphones, but last year's Galaxy Note 5 was not invited to the beta party.

Nevertheless, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was just spotted on GFXBench with Nougat on board, suggesting that an upgrade could be just around the corner. With the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 recalled twice over the same exploding battery issues, the Galaxy Note 5 remains the latest Note device available so it makes sense to rush the release of the latest Android version.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Nougat Upgrade Imminent?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was briefly listed on GFXBench with Android 7.0 Nougat on board, but the page was removed. Nevertheless, SamMobile grabbed a screenshot and speculates that Samsung is likely in the final stages of testing, which means it could soon be ready to release the new flavor of Android to its 2015 flagship phablet. It seems that Samsung devices surface in benchmarks running a new OS version right before the upgrade starts rolling out.

If this is the case, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 should start seeing an Android 7.0 Nougat update soon enough. The Galaxy S6 smartphone from last year was also spotted running a Nougat build on GFXBench, so it should also get the treat soon.

Although all signs seem to point to an imminent upgrade, it remains to be seen just when exactly the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will get Android 7.0 Nougat. From a historic perspective, Samsung has not always delivered timely updates to its Android handsets.

On the other hand, considering that the Galaxy Note 7 is no longer on the market, it would make sense for Samsung to prioritize the Galaxy Note 5 upgrade to appease its existing phablet fans and attract new ones. Samsung is also expected to bring the Galaxy Note 7's Grace UX to the Galaxy Note 5, which should make the device more appealing.

Android 7.0 Nougat

Google introduced Android 7.0 Nougat back in August and packed a slew of neat features and improvements into the new OS version. The new Android flavor comes with improved notifications, enhanced UI, better power saving, Instant Apps, lower system requirements, Vulkan API support, seamless updates, Daydream VR, Google Allo and Duo, enhanced multitasking, and many other improvements.
