Apple is once again facing criticism from owners of its iOS 8 iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch. New reports of serious battery drainage after the update is applied are flooding forums.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the most successful iPhone launch in the company's history and it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus are completely sold-out online via Apple's online store, with a waiting period required for all purchases. We recently reported that there's a new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus availability tracker that will help you score one of the coveted smartphones.

While the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus remain insanely popular, Apple has made several missteps with the OS that powers both smartphones and several of Apple's current iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch. In September it released iOS 8.0.1 and owners of the flagship iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus immediately began reporting that the update caused the smartphones to be unable to access their carrier's network; preventing calls, texts, emails, data transfer, and Touch ID. A few days later Apple released iOS 8.0.2, which fixed the reported issues.

Apple just released iOS 8.1, which has bug fixes and allows iOS 8 devices to use features like Continuity with OS X Yosemite-based Macs. It also added support for Apple Pay, allowing iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners to make payments via the NFC-equipped iPhones. iOS 8.1 also introduced a battery drain issue that many iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users are reporting since installing the update.

"I experienced this fast battery draining thing myself with iOS 8.1 on an iPhone 6 Plus, which after the update started to run physically warm to the touch and was losing battery at a highly unusual rate, where you can basically watch the percentage indicator tick down in real time," OS X Daily writes, adding that several readers have seen similar issues.

The website has provided several tips on things to do if you're experiencing battery drain issues since updating to iOS 8.1. If your iPhone or iPad is running a lot warmer than usual, perform a force reboot. To do this, hold the Power button and Home button down at the same time until the device restarts and you see an Apple logo.  You can also check out location-based reminders and background refresh settings, which is known to drain battery life and make sure they haven't turned themselves all on, as many users have reported this issue.
