With the announcement of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, gamers would see the return of the crossover fighting game franchise that includes their favorite Marvel and Capcom characters.

However, in the press release that Capcom published regarding the game's announcement, the Japanese video game developer and publisher revealed that there is more coming for fans of Capcom's franchises.

Capcom To Revive Dormant Franchises

Mega Man is one of the first Capcom characters to be revealed for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, along with Street Fighter mainstay Ryu. An extended gameplay trailer also showed that Morrigan of Darkstalkers would be among the fighters in the highly anticipated title.

The game marks the return of Mega Man and Morrigan to the video game industry, but it seems that their presence might not be limited to only Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

"Capcom is currently focused on reviving series that have not had new entries recently, or otherwise dormant IP," the company said in the press release. Games from the revived series will be released alongside the regular major releases each year, which include the Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Dead Rising franchises.

Capcom added that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite marks the start of a company initiative to enhance its value by utilizing the franchises that it owns.

Which Capcom Franchises Are Coming Back?

In the press release, Capcom did not specify which franchises the company is looking to revive.

With Mega Man and Morrigan present in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, there is the possibility that new Mega Man and Darkstalkers games are in the works. Other dormant franchises that Capcom could be considering to revive include Onimusha, Power Stone, Dino Crisis and Viewtiful Joe.

Earlier in the year, it was reported that Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed the possibility of a revival of the Onimusha franchise. While there were no concrete plans yet, it seemed that Capcom was at the very least open to the idea of creating another installment in the demon-slaying action-adventure series.

If Capcom was already considering to revive Onimusha, fans would also be hoping about the possibility that Capcom may have already progressed on plans for a new Onimusha game as several months have passed since the report.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite To Be Released In 2017

With all the possibilities for revived Capcom franchises, the focus remains on what will surely be arriving next year. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is currently slated for a late 2017 release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
