The Galaxy S5 may not have been upgraded to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat yet, but the older-gen Samsung smartphone has not been forgotten by the company and continues to get security fixes.

That's right, Samsung is rolling out the monthly security patch for its 2014 flagship phone, albeit in Europe. According to a report from SamMobile, the factory unlocked variant of the Galaxy S5 is now benefiting from the November security patch in some parts of Europe.

"Samsung is distributing last month's security patch for the factory unlocked model of the Galaxy S5 in Europe. The upgrade has already started making the rounds in Germany, the Netherlands and Poland, but is expected to make its way to other countries in the continent later this week," notes the publication.

What About The U.S.?

With several countries in Europe such as Poland, Germany and the Netherlands receiving the November security patch — albeit a little late — in December, owners of the factory unlocked variants of the Galaxy S5 in the United States would be wondering when the security update will make its way to their device.

The November security patch becoming available for the non-carrier variants of the Galaxy S5 in Europe suggests that Samsung could push out the update soon in the United States as well.

Samsung Galaxy S5 owners can possibly expect the unlocked variants of the handset to receive the November security patch in the coming weeks.

What About The Carrier-Supported Galaxy S5?

If you have not upgraded to any of the newer Samsung smartphones and are still stuck on the three-year old Galaxy S5 being offered by your network operator, you would need to wait a tad longer for the November security patch to make its way to your handset.

The updates are pushed out in a staggered manner and unlocked variants are usually the first to benefit from the patches, followed by the carrier supported models. In light of the fact that the carrier supported Galaxy S5 in Europe is still to receive the November patch, the U.S. roll out of the update seems farther away.

What Does The November Patch Bring?

The November maintenance update addresses security vulnerabilities in the Android operating system that have been issued by Google. In addition to this, Samsung is bringing fixes for nearly 14 bugs (i.e. SVE or Samsung Vulnerabilities Exposures) that are present in the budget-friendly Galaxy S5 handset via this update "to improve our customer's confidence on security of Samsung Mobile devices."
