OnePlus has now released the second beta version of Android 7.0 Nougat for OnePlus 3 devices. The first beta release was rolled out at the end of November via OxygenOS Open Beta 8, and the second update now brings a number of improvement to the Nougat experience in OnePlus 3.

What's New

The software update is around 118 MB and is officially called OxygenOS Open Beta 9 for OnePlus 3, arriving with expanded screenshot support while also housing a number of optimizations within the software's shelf design, user interface, DPI, and battery performance. There's also the usual spate of stability, performance, and bug fixes.

How To Get OxygenOS Open Beta 9

For OnePlus 3 owners who already have OxygenOS Open Beta 8 installed, the new software update will be sent as an over-the-air update, but those who still haven't tried Open Beta will need to flash the newest build via ADB sideload. Once flashed, users will continue receiving new beta builds as OnePlus releases them in the future.

As a precaution, however, those who have Open Beta on their OnePlus 3 devices will be barred from receiving over-the-air updates for official, stable, and final OxygenOS releases. These devices will need to be manually flashed back to an official build to start receiving stable releases. Rolling back to official OxygenOS versions wipes the OnePlus 3's data and cache, so it behooves one to have everything backed up before trying anything drastic.

Finally, OnePlus encourages those who'll try the newest software update to participate in the company's survey, so OnePlus can determine which parts of OxygenOS could be improved.

OnePlus 3 Specs

The OnePlus 3 is OnePlus' previous flagship phone, first released in June. It rocks a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 401 ppi. Under the hood is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with an Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. The phone comes with 64 GB  of internal storage and 6 GB of RAM. On the back is a 16-megapixel shooter capable of recording 4K videos, while on the front is an 8-megapixel that can record 1080p video.

Its flagship status has been recently usurped by the OnePlus 3T, released this past November. It's not a major improvement over its predecessor by any means, but its front shooter was bumped up to 16-megapixels — just like the rear. The processor was also bumped to Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, alongside the battery, which was bumped from 3,000 mAh to 3,400 mAh.

The OnePlus 3T retails for $439 and is available on OnePlus' site.
