Apple officially released iOS 10.2 last week, with the operating system update bringing with it several new features such as the new TV app, new emoji, and single sign-on for cable TV, among other things.

Apple has now stopped signing earlier versions of iOS 10, specifically iOS 10.1 and iOS 10.1.1, which will prevent users from downgrading into them once they have installed iOS 10.2.

No Longer Possible To Downgrade From iOS 10.2

It is a routine move for Apple to stop signing older versions of its mobile operating system as newer versions are released, and this trend continues with the iOS 10.2.

Apple does this to try to keep users of its mobile devices on the latest version of the iOS, for their own protection from security issues and to have them enjoy the new features that are being rolled out.

From now on, iOS 10.2 is the only version of the mobile operating system that can be installed in iOS devices, though beta testers and developers can also download and install the beta version of iOS 10.2.1.

With the signing of iOS 10.1 and iOS 10.1.1 stopped by Apple, users who upgrade to iOS 10.2 are forced to commit to the latest version of the mobile operating system.

Why Would You Want To Downgrade From iOS 10.2?

Apple is promoting for consistency and security among all its iOS devices by stopping the signing for iOS 10.1 and iOS 10.1.1. However, some users who have upgraded to iOS 10.2 have been looking to downgrade to these earlier versions. Why would they want to do that?

A recent report revealed that some problems and issues that iOS device owners have been experiencing actually worsened with the release of iOS 10.2. According to user reports, the battery bug that has been causing iPhones to shut down despite showing charges in their batteries of about 30 percent is still present. Users are also reporting malfunctions with EarPods after upgrading to iOS 10.2, as phone calls are being dropped.

iOS 10.2 Introduces New TV App

The problems that users are experiencing in iOS 10.2 are unfortunate, as the operating system update provides several new features that improves the experience of users.

One of the new features is the new TV app, which is arguably the biggest addition to the operating system with this latest update. It is a companion app focused on video streaming, as the TV app combines all the listing from major video streaming services not including Netflix. The app then provides recommendation based on the popularity of the shows and the user's viewing history.
