The Pokémon Company is now kicking off the second global mission, challenging trainers to either catch or defeat 1 million Pokémon encountered using the Island Scan feature in Pokémon Sun and Moon.

In the previous mission, players were tasked with catching 100 million Pokémon between Nov. 29 and Dec. 13, and the reward at the time was 1,000 Festival Coins.

However, it wasn't a success, as everybody managed to clock in only about 16.5 million Pokémon. At any rate, it still got everyone who participated a consolation prize of 100 Festival Coins.

Winning The Second Global Mission

Titled "Find Pokémon Using Island Scan!," the second global mission requires trainers across the globe to catch or take down 1 million Pokémon they come across via Island Scan in total, as mentioned earlier.

The event is set to last until Jan. 9, and that means players better get busy and start as soon as possible to succeed this time around.

As for what Island Scan is, it's a new feature in Pokémon Sun and Moon that lets trainers catch a Pokémon that's not normally found in Alola, ranging from Cyndaquil, Chikorita, and Totodile to Axew, Deino, Bellsprout, and more.

However, they need to scan 10 QR codes and earn a total of 100 points before they can gain access to the tool, and they'll only get one charge of QR scanning every two hours.

Now, it should be pointed out that special QR codes will let them score 20 points counting toward the Island Scan, and those who have completed the main story already can go ahead and use the special QR code of the mythical Pokémon Magearna.

Also, to help everyone along the way, Imgur has a huge compilation of the QR codes, and as luck would have it, it doesn't seem like it's getting pulled down anytime soon.

The Reward And Consolation Prize

If all the participating Pokémon Sun and Moon manage to reach 1 million, everyone will get 2,017 Festival Coins in honor of the new year, but if they fail, they'll get 217 Festival Coins as a consolation prize.
