As previously reported, the Nexus 6P is experiencing several issues that some fear are part of a move to age the device prematurely.

Now, one of its problems involving battery drainage curiously manifested itself in some Google Pixel devices, further complicating the issue and possible attempts to develop a fix.

Google Pixel's Early Shutdown Problem

The report first surfaced at Reddit as user vrski_15 started a thread asking for help since his 32 GB Google Pixel has been recently shutting down even when it still has enough juice to power 3 to 4 hours of usage.

"Twice in last 5 days, has the phone shutdown abruptly while I am in middle of something," the Reddit user posted. "In both instances, battery was between 25-35% ... the customer service wasn't really helpful. All they could come up was that I should factory reset my phone and wait for it to happen again, and then visit them."

The Reddit thread would have been dismissed as an isolated incident but more users began posting that their Pixels are also suffering the same issue.

"It's a shame because it was really great before this. Right now I'm at 50% and 1 hour SOT," another poster stated. "This is unacceptable."

One should note that the Pixel early shutdown bug seemed to have manifested after the Android 7.1.1 update whereas the problem started for several Nexus 6P after the installation of the Android 7.0 Nougat version.

There are reports that some Pixel handsets are also experiencing a freezing issue.

Poor Customer Support

Affected users have also been complaining about the Google customer support service since the fixes that the support staff were able to suggest are not solving the problem.

Nexus 6P owners could only hope for the best now that Google's flagship is experiencing the same bug. They have been suffering for some time since the battery drainage issue emerged several months ago. What is particularly jarring for these customers is the way the issue has been labeled as low priority at Google's support page.

Google's Pseudo-Fix

A Google technician finally responded at Reddit in the latter part of December, urging Nexus 6P owners to contact Google Store Support. Without any other options, these users called the suggested resource only to find that they have to wait several days more for Google to determine how to handle the case.

This suggests that the company has been sitting on the problem since the very first round of complaints hit their hotlines in October when the Nougat update for the Nexus 6P was released and triggered the early shutdown bug.

Observers believe that the early shutdown is caused by the Android 7.0 Nougat update and could be easily resolved by a firmware patch. So far, the company has not released any official statement regarding the issue.
