Apple said that three out of every four iDevices are now running on iOS 7, which released around three months back.

According to a chart posted by Apple on its App Store support page for developers, the latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 7, has already reached an adoption rate of 74 percent, which means that nearly three in four portable iDevices are now running on the latest software.

The chart also indicates that around 22 percent of the iDevices are still running on iOS 6 and just four percent are running on previous versions of iOS.

Apple usually releases its latest iOS version in September when the company also launches a new iPhone. In 2012, the company launched the iPhone 5 in September and the device was the first that came pre-loaded with the then latest iOS 6. Apple then released the iOS 6 to other iDevices.

Similarly, this year, Apple released the newest iPhone 5s and the budget iPhone 5c in September along with the much-awaited iOS 7. Apple soon released iOS 7 to other iDevices as well.

The figures of iOS 7 adoption rate are quite high when compared to the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system that was released in late October this year. According to Android developers webpage, the latest version of the Google operating system has just reached 1.1 percent of overall Android devices globally.

The Android developers webpage also indicates that 37.4 percent of Android users have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, first released in July 2012, running on their devices. Around 12.9 percent of Android devices are running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and about 4.2 percent on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The above figures are reflective of the fact that Android is very fragmented when compared to iOS.
