The Tesla Model S got a bump in its battery range, just as the electric carmaker quietly added the 100D variant to its lineup.

The Model S 100D now has 335 miles of range, while the Model X 100D can go up to 295 miles on a charge.

The company quietly changed its Design Studio website to add a non-performance 100D option for both the Model S and Model X electric vehicles.

Just less than a week ago, Elon Musk and his team gifted Tesla Model S P100D car owners with the Ludicrous+ Mode. Using an over-the-air software update, the battery upgrade allowed car owners to rev up from 0 to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds.

Model S 100D Sedan Owns World's Best Driving Range

Tesla has modified the battery from the P100D and put it into a non-performance model, creating the world's greatest driving range of any production electric car with an EPA combined range rating of 335 miles per charge.

The 100D has the same 100kWh battery as the P100D but drops the "Performance" prefix to put emphasis on the EV's range.

This is 20 miles more than the Model S P100D, which has a rating of 315 miles. The company's lineup now includes electric vehicles with a battery capability of 60, 75, 90 and 100 kWh.

The arrival of the 100D model could be a signal that the company may remove the 90D from its lineup soon, since it does not make any sense for both the 90D and 100D of the Model S and Model X to coexist. Also, Tesla still offers the 75D for those who have budget constraints.

The 100D version of the Model X car was also launched at the same time. The Model X 100D has 6 miles more range than the Model X P100D's 289 miles. The 100D Model X now has the longest-range version of that vehicle with a range of 295 miles.

Tesla Can Improve Range Further This Year

Musk has said in the past that a 600-mile range might be possible in 2017, which suggests that additional range increases for Tesla's current EV lineup could be on the horizon even before the smaller and less expensive Model 3 launches later this year.

Now that the once-impossible 300-mile per single charge battery range is already a reality, a 400-mile Tesla car is now something to look forward to in the near future.
