Upon its release last November, Snapchat Spectacles were a must have item for many who were excited to nab a pair of brightly colored, stylish smart glasses. Some even waited for 18 hours outside the Spectacles New York retail store just to be the first ones to own the product. Now, however, the lines are gone and there's room for a slick alternative to the Spectacles in the form of PogoCam.

Video and Still Images

Quite unlike the Spectacles, PogoCam attaches to your sunglasses instead of being the sunglasses itself. It is a tiny little magnetic device that you can easily attach and detach to your glasses. At the push of a button, or two if you're taking a video, PogoCam's 5-megapixel, 720p HD video camera with audio will record any moment that you wish to memorialize. You can easily spot this major difference with Snapchat's smart glasses as the Spectacles lacked the capability to take still images.

Versatile Connectivity

The tiny device is light at under six grams and boasts water-resistant and sweat-resistant features. With a charging time of 35 minutes, the PogoCam has an idle battery life for up to 20 days. It is compatible with both Android and iOS, and can store about a hundred pictures or up two minutes of video. Once full, the contents of your PogoCam could easily be transferred to your computer, ready to be shared on Twitter, Facebook and practically anywhere you'd like. This feature right here already ups the Spectacles by a few notches as the videos on Snapchat's smart eyewear can only be used with... well, Snapchat.

Spring Release

The hands-free device is set to be launched this March 2017 at the International Vision Expo East Conference in New York City and is expected to cost around $150. It's a bit pricey, even without the possibility of consumers buying from resellers who double or even triple the retail price, but it could be worth the buy for adventurous folks who were either not able to grab a pair of the Snapchat Spectacles, or were put off by the idea of possibly wearing the brightly colored glasses with your prescription glasses underneath. It should be noted, though, that the PogoCam is only compatible with sunglasses and eyeglasses from its partner brands.

The PogoCam's look is not seamless, as you'll still have a tiny black thing the size of a battery stuck to your glasses, but it still offers an interesting and convenient way to capture memories without having to haul a camera or even a smartphone. Now only if it came in other colors...
