Google has announced the list of compatible devices that will get updated to Android 7.1.2 Nougat.

While several smartphones from the company such as the Nexus 6 are in line to get the update, the Motorola-made Nexus 6 and the HTC-made Nexus 9 tablet are omitted from the list.

With all the optimization and bug fixes done, the Android 7.1.4 Nougat update is currently in beta and shall be rolled out in the coming months.

"The next maintenance release for Android Nougat-7.1.2-is just around the corner! To get the recipe just right, starting today, we're rolling out a public beta to eligible devices that are enrolled in the Android Beta Program, including Pixel and Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, and Pixel C devices. We're also preparing an update for Nexus 6P that we expect to release soon," says Google.

For the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 fans, the news of no Android 7.1.2 Nougat upgrade will come as a surprise and they would be hoping that Google alters its decision. However, both the devices are past their two-year window for guaranteed updates.

No Android Update For Nexus 6 And Nexus 9?

While Google has not specifically said that the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 will not be updated, its announcement does not mention the names of the devices eligible for the Android 7.1.2 update.

A Google employee, however, confirmed that the two devices will not benefit from the update to publication Droid Life.

"Well, that's because neither will see the update, even as it goes final in a couple of months, Google confirmed to us this afternoon," noted the publication.

The only silver lining is that Google may continue bringing in essential security patches to both the devices over a period of one year. This will be some consolation for users who are not prepared to part with their Nexus 6 smartphone or the Nexus 9 tablet.

Devices Eligible For Android 7.1.2 Nougat Update

As reported, devices that have enrolled for the beta program do not have to bother much about the update as it shall be delivered in a few days. The current beta program is rolling for Google's flagship devices such as Pixel XL, Pixel, Nexus Player, Nexus 5X and Pixel C.

Google has also announced that the beta program for the update will also be developed for the Nexus 6P. This program will be released soon.

Those who haven't enrolled yet and are keen need to register for the Android 7.1.2 beta program before it is too late. Once the enrolment takes place, users will receive the beta update over-the-air.
