Motorola is trying to make its U.S. customers happy after a period of initial disappointment.

Close on the heels of reports that the unlocked version of Moto Z has started receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update in the U.S. as promised by the company, comes news that the Moto Z Play too is benefiting from the latest OS.

Motorola had earlier announced that the Moto Z Play would follow Moto Z and would receive the Nougat updates in March. It seems that Motorola wants to stay in the good books of its customer and has started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update almost a month earlier for the unlocked Moto Z Play in the U.S.

The update was rolled out for the European variants of the Moto Z Play smartphone in January. The only Moto Z series models to receive the Android N update in 2016 were the Verizon-exclusive Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Droid Force.

The Nougat update for unlocked Moto Z Play is being rolled out over-the-air (OTA) and weighs a hefty 1121.1 MB.

What Does The New Update Bring?

According to reports, the Android 7.0 Nougat update brings in loads of new features for the Moto Z Play's unlocked model. These features include multi-window support thanks to which one can work on two apps simultaneously on the same screen. The update also brings support for more than 1500 emojis including the ones promoting gender equality.

Users of the Moto Z Play will also benefit from the Doze Mode, which enables the device to use less power, when not in use. The update will also allow users to customize the Quick Settings tile according to their preference, so as to quickly access the most commonly used settings from the bar.

The Android 7.0 Nougat software update also brings Direct Boot and new security upgrades.

How To Get The Update?

There are two ways to install the update. One can do it automatically or manually. In automatic installation the user will receive a notification message about the update on his or her smartphone. After receiving the update, the user can follow the below instructions to install it on the handset.

Step 1: Choose the option, Yes I'm in. After the download select, Install now.

Step 2: The phone will reboot automatically once the update has been installed successfully.

It is also possible to not get an alert for the update. In this case one has to download the update manually. To manually install the Android N update on your Moto Z Play, follow the instructions below:

Step 1: Go to the apps menu and select the Settings option.

Step 2: From the Settings option choose About Phone.

Step 3: Next, select System Updates.

Step 4: Click on the option "Yes I'm in". Once the update has been downloaded select Install Now.

Step 5: Once the update has been successfully installed, the phone will reboot.

It is advisable that users have at least 50 percent charge on their handset and be connected to a strong Wi-Fi. Make sure you back up important data prior to updating your handset to Android. 7.0 Nougat.
