You can scratch Final Fantasy XV off your Nintendo Switch games.

The latest installment of the popular Final Fantasy series will not be coming to Nintendo Switch according to Director Hajime Tabata.

"It wouldn't run," he said. When pressed to explain, he said that Final Fantasy XV might run, but his team did not conduct any tests to know if it would run properly.

"There are no plans for Switch at the moment, but overall, there is interest in the platform among the development team. We do have lots of Nintendo fans inside BD2."

Final Fantasy XV is running on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while a PC port is being planned.

Development Team Still Intact

Speaking of team, the group who worked on Final Fantasy XV is still very much together. According to Tabata, about 70% of the team are still working on the title.

The remaining members are still hard at work doing updates for the game. The upcoming DLCs, game updates, bug fixes and other tweaks are being handled by the same team. Some are also doing VR-related projects.

'Episode Gladio' And Story DLCs

When Final Fantasy XV was released, it received acclaim for its outstanding open world, gameplay and high-quality graphics. However, the game's story was found incomplete by fans and critics alike.

This feedback is what prompted Tabata and the development team to come up with DLCs containing not just bug fix and extra contents, but also story updates. The first update is Episode Gladio featuring Gladiolus and his story during his disappearance in the main storyline.

The next episodes will follow the other characters Prompto and Ignis. During the interview, Tabata confessed that there has been a debate which character to put out first. But they ultimately chose to put Ignis last as it will affect the storyline of the game.

"We want to create a really solid game for Episode Ignis, which is why we sort of left the best for last," he said.

Character Creation Feature

Tabata also revealed that a character creation feature is in the works, but he declined to elaborate on the details.

"Right now, the current stage of development lets you change the character and morph it into another character that looks very different," he said.

The new feature will be combined to the multiplayer, he revealed.

Final Fantasy XV is the 15th title for the long-running RPG franchise created by Square Enix. It is the first title to feature an open world setting. The game is currently enjoying its "Moogle Festival" update, with other updates coming in March.
