Apple's iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus were released by the company in September 2016. Both the models were made available in two new color options - Matte Black and Jet Black.

Post launch, Apple warned users that its Jet Black variant of the iPhone which had a glossy finish may be prone to scratches. The company advised customers to deploy a cover to avoid any scratches.

True to its warnings, after just some months of launch many consumers reported that their Jet Black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus had scratches on its surface.

Now it seems that the Jet Black variant of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are not the only variants to be experiencing issues. Users of the Matte Black version are also complaining that the paint on the smartphone is chipping off.

Paint Chipping Issues On The Matte Black Variants

Owners of the Matte Black variant of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are thronging Apple's communities forum and voicing their concerns. Some have even shared images to support their claims

"The Same Issue In my iPhone 7 Matte Black too... It Just been around 4 Months old at the Top, so color has chipped out it looks so Bad Never Tought that Producut from Apple Will have this Issue... After paying Huge Amount, If this are the issues it is quite unexpected," complained a user.

An iPhone 7 Plus user shared that as advised by Apple he had been careful when using his Matte Black option. However, the anodised paint on the smartphone chipped off the device's body despite the measures.

The paint chipping off the phone's surface is causing distress to many Matte Black iPhone 7 owners. Most consumers experiencing this issue have revealed that the paint usually chips near the volume buttons and speakers but, in some cases the paint has eroded from the rear of the devices as well.

"Matte black iPhone 7. Just looked around mine and found chipping near the speaker grille. Silicone case since day 1 :( there's chipping on the mute switch too," stated a Reddit user.

No Support From Apple

Consumers have reported the issue to Apple but the company has declined to help in anyway. Paint chipping off falls under the category of cosmetic damage which is not covered by the warranty. This has rendered consumers helpless and many have even tried to cover up the chipped spots with marker pens and paint.

Consumers are in the dark whether Apple will address the issue and also admit that both the Matte Black and the Jet Black variants of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have some issues regarding its design.

However, it seems that for now the company is staying mum on the issue.
