In a growing list of acquisitions, Square has added Evenly, an app that is designed to share expenses easily with your friends, to its portfolio. Evenly is just a year old start-up and was designed to take care of the headache involved in splitting bills among friends.

"At Square, we are committed to creating a better experience for our merchants by helping them focus on their customers rather than on the payment itself," wrote Square product engineering lead Gokul Rajaram in a blog post. "Evenly's app made it easy for anyone to send or collect payments from friends, anywhere, anytime. But more importantly, the team showcased the importance of prioritizing experience over the technical aspects of the product itself."

Evenly will be open for existing users until January 15, 2014. On its blog, the company wrote that it will be giving existing users "plenty of time" to get money out of the application and also finish collections. Meanwhile the app has been removed from the App Store.

Evenly's five-person engineering and design team will be joining Square to work on "seller initiatives."

In October, Square introduced peer-to-peer payments called Square Cash through which anyone with debit card can send money to others by simply sending an email with amount in the subject line.

Early this month, Square also acquired Viewfinder, a photo-sharing and group messaging applications.
