Samsung just trademarked the supposed name of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus's advanced Always-on displays. The company has filed the trademark, "Infinity Display" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

It has been a long-time coming for Samsung smartphone fans to get their hands on a new flagship smartphone from the company. The Galaxy Note 7 recall was a serious blow to the company's reputation and source of revenue the popular series has created over the years. Samsung had to rely on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to pick up the slack and hopefully entice former Note 7 users to move to the Galaxy S7 edge.

Dual Curved Edge Displays Are A Hit

The dual curved edge display of the Galaxy S7 edge has been one of its biggest draws and it's also one of the main reasons Samsung was awarded the "Best Smartphone" award at this year's Mobile Congress. Unlike the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Samsung plans to only use dual curved edge displays with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus and it has just trademarked what is expected to be the official name of the smartphones' displays.

Infinity Displays Coming To Samsung Galaxy S8 And S8 Plus

Samsung has filed a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for, "Infinity Display," as you can see in the screenshot above. In Late January, a leaked image and report first mentioned the Galaxy S8 having an "Infinity Display" and Bixby button, so it seems almost certain Samsung will use the name to brand its new near bezel-less dual curved edge Super AMOLED displays.

We got out first look at Samsung's new "Infinity Displays" in action, when a tipster posted a quick hands-on video, which showed off the sleek design and 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screens of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus in action. Samsung even relocated the physical home button/fingerprint scanner to the rear of the new smartphones in order to make the Infinity Displays stand front and center with no buttons.

New Button For Bixby

Samsung will opt for on-screen buttons for the capacitive keys that flanked the home button on its previous Galaxy S smartphones. Images have shown the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will feature a new hardware button on its left side, below the volume buttons, which is believed to be dedicated to its enhanced virtual assistant, Bixby, which will use advanced AI and go head to head with Google Assistant, and Siri.

We should know more details on Samsung's "Infinity Displays on March 29 at its Unpacked event, and we'll bring you all the latest news.
