The Pokémon GO Gen 2 update brought a number of changes to the table, and one of them has to do with the egg hatching rate.

Since the very beginning, the game has featured egg hatching. Players can get eggs from PokéStops, put them in an incubator and start walking to hatch them. Different eggs require different walking distances to hatch, with the easiest one requiring a two-kilometer walk. Of course, the easiest eggs to hatch will not yield rare treasures.

Pokémon GO Gen 2 Update Changes: Brief Recap

The basics of the egg-hatching process have not changed, Pokémon GO players still have to walk to hatch eggs. With the Gen 2 update, however, the egg hatching rate is different for all tiers — the 2 km, 5 km and 10 km eggs.

As a reminder, the major Pokémon GO Gen 2 update that landed back in February added more than 80 new Pokémon from the Johto region, along with new evolution items, berries and more. At the same time, it changed the way attacks work, as well as the Pokémon CP and egg hatching rate.

Pokémon GO Gen 2 Egg Hatching: Rarity Chart

In an attempt to determine how easy (or hard) it is to hatch certain critters from eggs after the Gen 2 update, a Reddit user came up with a chart to map out the probabilities. More specifically, the chart serves as a tentative guide for egg hatch rarity so that trainers know what to expect from 2, 5 and 10 km eggs based on which Pokémon typically appear at what rate.

The chart is quite comprehensive, aiming to offer as many details as possible, but we'll only go into the highlights.

For 2 km eggs, the rarest Pokémon to hatch are Remoraid, with a 1.74 percent chance, and Misdreavus, with a 0.87 percent chance. Needless to mention, this means players will have to hatch a slew of 2 km eggs to get a hold of these rarities.

With 5 km eggs, the rarest Pokémon to hatch are Yanma, Wobbuffet, Girafarig, Sneasel, Dunsparce and Shuckle. They all have a 0.62 percent chance of hatching.

Lastly, 10 km eggs already pose a considerable challenge given how much one has to walk to hatch such an egg, so the rarity gets bumped up a few percentage points. The rarest 10 km egg Pokémon hatches are Miltank and Skarmory, with a 2.57 percent chance. However, players have a 5.13 percent chance of hatching Sudowoodo or Mareep from such eggs.

Non-Hatchable Gen 2 Pokémon

The chart further reveals that Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile cannot be hatched. In fact, 13 other Pokémon from the Johto region are not hatchable. At the same time, some Gen 1 Pokémon that were previously hatchable are no longer hatchable after the update. Magikarp, for instance, can no longer be obtained from eggs.
