With an iOS or Android smartphone at hand, anyone can make money with apps nowadays.

The thing is, it's not exactly easy to find the right apps that'll actually let users earn real cash.

To be clear, these apps won't necessarily be the key to a rags-to-riches story, but at any rate, they do provide a good source of income for some pocket money.

Pact (Android / iOS)

Get ready to make a serious commitment to your exercise routine and earn some cash for doing so with Pact.

It's simple, really. All you have to do is achieve one fitness goal after another, but if you fail to meet them, you'll lose money instead, which is the motivating factor here.

Of course, you're going to have to send in proof of your accomplishments with recorded GPS data and photos via the app.

As for how much you can make, it depends on how many tasks you accomplish, and you should get about $2 for each one. For those who are wondering, these rewards come from those who don't meet their goals.

Loot! (Android)

With Loot!, you'll get paid to take pictures and share content of your favorite brands on social media, which is something a lot of people are doing already. You're more or less turning into an endorser here, and that's pretty much it.

To cash in, you're going to need at least $10 and a PayPal account.

Unfortunately, Loot! is only available for Android devices, as it has been removed from the App Store.

App Trailers (Android)

Watching ads can sometimes be a pain, but if you're getting paid to do it, then it's not so bad, is it? If you agree, then App Trailers can deliver, allowing you to earn points by watching ad after ad of apps, games, movies, and many others.

For every 500 points, you can trade it in for $0.50 and receive the sum through PayPal. Alternatively, you can use those points to get Amazon gift cards and whatnot.

Ibotta (Android / iOS)

Arguably one of the best money-making apps out there, Ibotta lets you earn some cash back sending in receipts.

Put simply, what you need to do here is to open Ibotta and finish certain tasks to unlock rebates on select items, including but not limited to milk from the grocery, a dinner for two, and many others. After that, go shopping as normal or go out for a meal and then scan your barcodes and send a photo of your receipt for authentication. That's all there is to it.

Sure, browsing Facebook or playing games such as Super Mario Run is usually how people spend time on their phone, but turning to Pact, Loot!, App Trailers, Ibotta, and others like them will let you be productive even with your face glued to your handset's screen, not to mention that some will even help you stay healthy.
