New leaks suggest that Apple is apparently working on two versions of the iPhone 8, but only one will see the light of day. It seems that the two versions include a "Plan A" design that sports key features and a "Plan B" fail-safe, which Apple will revert to if Plan A is botched.

iPhone 8 'Plan A' Rumored Features

The leak, citing an employee at Foxconn as the source, says that Plan A iPhone 8 will have the following features:

The next iPhone will feature Touch Id technology beneath the display, which has so far rested on the iPhone's home button. It will sport 4 mm bezels around the entire edge of the device, which means it'll also have a near bezel-less display. It will also have a 2.5D contoured glass on the front panel and the back, with the phone surrounded by a metal frame. There will also be wireless charging, and it'll sport the same dimensions as its predecessor, the iPhone 7.

Moreover, the leak adds that the phone will have a 5.8-inch OLED display, an "invisible" front-facing camera underneath it, and a large power button apparently with two points of contact. The reason for the latter feature is yet to be determined, if indeed true.

Some of these details are ones we've heard before, particularly with the Touch ID being stored beneath the display. If, however, Apple pulls of its ultra-thin 4 mm bezels all around the device, then it's poised to offer something even more dazzling than the "Infinity Display" of Samsung's recently announced flagships, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

iPhone 8 Plan B: Fail-Safe Option

Now, for the fail-safe "Plan B" option. Both iDrop and a second leak source, SlashLeaks, state that Apple has a safer design plan for the iPhone 8 in case Plan A falls through during development for some reason. The leaks provide two key details about the purported Plan B. First, the phone will be a taller, wider, and thicker handset than the iPhone 7, with dimensions of 149.5 x 72.5 x 8.6 mm, compared with the iPhone 7's 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm dimensions.

The display for the fail-safe version is reportedly also 5.8-inches, but it remains larger than any previous iPhone, so Apple seems firmly fixed on this size standard. Plan B also shows a dual camera setup similar to the iPhone 7 Plus, but with the cameras now in a vertical orientation. Why this is has yet to be determined.

As with any leaks, take everything mentioned above with a grain of salt, but a backup plan makes sense, seeing as how Samsung reportedly had plans to install the fingerprint scanner underneath the display of the Galaxy S8 but ended up placing it on the back of the phone.

Moreover, even with a diverse roster of leaks surrounding the iPhone 8 narrative, a few things seem to come into the fore more prominently than others, such as an OLED screen, minimal bezels, and the absence of a home button, which is the first for any iPhone, if indeed true.
