Niantic has now launched an Easter "Eggstravaganza" event for Pokémon GO players on Thursday, April 13, which lasts through April 20. If you pardon the egg-themed puns, the Easter Egg hunt does come with pretty sweet bonuses.

As always, Niantic is encouraging Pokémon GO players to put on their shoes, get going, and participate in the global Pokémon Egg hunt.

Pokémon GO Eggstravaganza Event: What's New?

For starters, there's going to be an increased variety of 2-kilometer eggs during the event, according to Niantic. These are usually the easiest eggs to find in the game, but in turn, common Pokémon often hatch from them, which is a bit of a letdown. It won't be so for the next seven days, so players should definitely take advantage of this while they can.

According to Reddit user DeViliShChild on The Silph road subreddit, here are the types of Pokémon you can hatch from 2-kilometer eggs during the event, though keep in mind that the list is still being updated:

• Aerodactyl

• Dunsparce

• Eevee

• Elekid

• Girafarig

• Grimer

• Growlithe

• Kofffing

• Lapras

• Larvitar

• Magby

• Miltank

• Onix

• Phanphy

• Rhyhorn

• Scyther

• Shellder

• Shuckle

• Skarmory

• Smoochum

• Sneasel

• Stantler

• Sudowoodo

• Tangela

• Tyrogue

• Wobbuffet

• Wooper

Players will also net an increased amount of candy per egg hatch, although it's not clear whether it's going to be double or not. At least Niantic knows that Easter is all about more candy.

Moreover, players will earn double experience during the whole run of the event, regardless of what they do, so this is definitely a great time to take advantage of the bonus XP points.

Finally, Lucky Egg items will be sold at a 50 percent discount in Pokémon GO's in-game shop for four times the experience.

Get Second-Generation Starters From Hatching Eggs

Perhaps the most exciting part of the Easter event is the ability to get second-generation starters — Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile — from 5-kilometer eggs, as spotted by Reddit user ch33psh33p on The Silph Road subreddit. Previously, these Pokémon couldn't be obtained from hatching eggs at all.

Keep in mind, however, that the game decides what Pokémon is growing inside eggs the moment you acquire them and not when they hatch, so if you have 5-kilometer eggs lying around before the event began, they won't give you second-gen Pokémon. Obtain 5-kilometer eggs during the event, however, and chances are you will.

The Eggstravaganza event follows Pokémon GO's Water Festival in late March, which convinced many players to jump back into the game in the hopes of catching a shiny Magikarp, alongside prominent water Pokémon such as Lapras, Gyarados, and others.

Thoughts about Pokémon GO's Eggstravaganza event? Have you caught Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile from hatching 5-kilometer eggs? Any Pokémon you've hatched from 2 kilometer eggs not listed above? Feel free to tell us all about your experience in the comments section below!
