Today's tech trends seem to go the way of smallness and portability, just like the craze over ultrabooks. But it looks like desktops are following suit.

Acer has unveiled the Aspire U27, a compact all-in-one desktop. It looks like a 27-inch monitor but under the hood, it packs an Intel Kaby Lake CPU and up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM. But the main reason for its slim profile is its liquid cooling technology called LiquidLoop.

Acer is a Taiwan-based multinational hardware manufacturer popular for its consumer laptops, including its monster gaming laptop Acer Predator 21 X that costs a whopping $9,000.

Slim All-In-One Desktop

Acer has unveiled two all-in-one desktops: the aforementioned 27-inch Aspire U27 and its smaller cousin, the 23.8-inch Z24. Both units use the latest 7th-gen Intel Kaby Lake CPU (with an optional Intel Optane Memory) and have up to 32 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz memory. Both come with Windows 10 out of the box, with Windows Hello for easy, fast, and secure access.

The U27 and Z24 use Acer ExaColor technology for faithful color reproduction. For eye care, both have Acer's BlueLightShield that lessens the emission of blue light, and FlickerLess for reducing eye fatigue.

The U27's monitor/chassis boasts a thin 12mm (0.5-inch) chassis supported by a V-shaped metal stand and a Full HD wide viewing angle display with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. To complete the multimedia experience, a subwoofer has been included for deep bass sounds.

No Fans, Just Liquid Cooling

The main reason for the U27's sleek profile is Acer's proprietary liquid-cooling technology called LiquidLoop.

"We extremely excited to be bringing our innovative LiquidLoop fanless cooling system to our all-in-one PCs," said Acer General Manager of Stationary Computing Jeff Lee. "The cooling system has enabled us to create the Aspire U27's award-winning ultraslim design, allowing it to shine as a modern piece of home décor, yet quiet enough to not distract."

The LiquidLoop cooling technology ditches the fans, which allows for quieter computer use. According to Acer, its tech uses the evaporation and condensation of the liquid coolant inside, which dissipates heat away from the core parts such as the CPU and GPU. Because it is fanless, it has fewer moving parts and uses lower power, thus preventing dust buildup and ultimately prolonging the product's life.
