After weeks of leaks, Ubisoft has officially unveiled the latest entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise, Assassin's Creed: Origins.

Fans of the series already know several details about the title due to reports on leaked information, but publisher Ubisoft was still able to pull off a surprise.

Assassin's Creed: Origins Refreshes The Series

The official announcement confirms the ancient Egyptian setting of Assassin's Creed: Origins, a fact first revealed by a screenshot of the game that was leaked last month.

A new location and timeline is not the sole selling point of the new title, though, as playing the game at Ubisoft's pre-E3 2017 event in Los Angeles reveals that Assassin's Creed: Origins revamps the long-running franchise.

In Assassin's Creed: Origins, players take on the role of the protagonist Bayek, the last surviving Medjay, which are an elite group of soldiers. As can be guessed from its title, the game will focus on the start of the Assassins Brotherhood.

Mashable's Adam Rosenberg claims that Assassin's Creed: Origins is an action-RPG, with a vastly revamped combat system. While early Assassin's Creed titles dedicated most of its controls on movement and parkour stunts, Assassin's Creed: Origins contains a very deep combat system that includes several kinds of attacks, dodging, and blocking.

Previous Assassin's Creed games centered on countering and then unleashing combos, which looked nice onscreen but became repetitive. In Assassin's Creed: Origins, combat has a renewed focus on blocking, dodging, and attacking. Engaging in combat is now more dangerous, which places more incentive on players to improve their stealth skills.

The open-world game will require players to obtain quests, with the story of Assassin's Creed: Origins unfolding as missions are completed. Players will also be able to unlock abilities as they level up with Bayek, improving his skills on combat, stealth, or scavenging. One of Bayek's abilities involves a hawk that can provide players with an overhead view of their surroundings.

Also in Assassin's Creed: Origins are loot drops acquired from enemies. The loot can be in the form of consumable items, crafting materials, and gear of various rarities.

The Roots Of 'Assassin's Creed'

In a game that literally explores the roots of the franchise's Assassins, it does not do away with what made the franchise successful.

Assassin's Creed games have always offered players different means to taking out their targets, and that does not change in Assassin's Creed: Origins. However, further expanding this system is the fact that the characters in the game follow set patterns throughout their daily lives, so players can study their target's routines and pick out the perfect opportunity to strike.

Ship combat, a well-received feature from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, is also making its return in Assassin's Creed: Origins. The game might not feature the massive naval battles from Black Flag, but the addition of water bodies as battlefields further expands the game's environment.

Assassin's Creed: Origins Coming Oct. 27

Assassin's Creed: Origins will launch on Oct. 27 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, ending the one-year break that the franchise took last year.

Another leak revealed that Assassin's Creed: Origins will have a Steelbook Gold Edition that comes with a copy of the game, a Season Pass, a mysterious Deluxe Pack, and a steelbook case.
