Apple has rolled out the first iOS 11 public beta just a few days after the second developer beta, allowing customers to try out the newest version of the mobile operating system before its widespread public release.

For iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch owners who would like to install the iOS 11 public beta, you should remember that the iOS version may still come with bugs and unfinished features, and in the worst case scenario, could brick your Apple device. If you are willing to take the chance, then here are the things that you need to do to test iOS 11.

Sign Up For The Apple Beta Software Program

The first step is for users to sign up for the Apple Beta Software Program, which is free. Users will need to use their Apple ID and agree to the terms and conditions that participating in the program presents the risk of corrupting your data or bricking your device. For users who do not want to take that risk, it is recommended to wait for the widespread release, or use a backup iOS device and not your primary one.

For those who continue, after creating your account, you can enroll your iOS device under the Guide for Public Betas screen. From there, select the iOS tab and tap the Download Profile button to install the iOS Beta Software Profile on your iOS device.

Back Up Your iPhone, iPad, Or iPod Touch

Before continuing, users are recommended to backup their iOS device on iTunes in case something goes wrong with the installation of iOS 11.

Most iOS device users should know how to back up their iPhone, iPad, or iPad Touch on iTunes by now. For those who still don't, it is as easy as plugging the iOS device into a Mac or PC using a Lightning to USB cable and launching the Backups option on iTunes.

For users who would also like to back up their account passwords and data on HomeKit and HealthKit, you can also check the Encrypt iPhone Backup option.

Download iOS 11 Public Beta

After signing up for the Apple Beta Software Program and backing up your iOS device, the only step remaining is to download the iOS 11 public beta.

Installing the operating system works similarly to installing regular software updates. Users will need to enter their iOS device's Settings, and select the Software Update option under the General menu. Users should then tap on the Download and Install option and select Install Now.

After getting iOS 11 into your iOS device, users can report bugs and issues to Apple through the included Feedback app.

What's In iOS 11?

The iOS 11, one of Apple's major announcements at WWDC 2017, comes with a range of additions and upgrades to the mobile operating system.

Among the things that users can expect from iOS 11 are an upgraded Siri, an improved iMessage, indoor mapping for Apple Maps, augmented reality support, and many more. iOS 11 also comes with a Do Not Disturb While Driving feature that turns off all notifications when it detects that a user is driving a vehicle.
